{D&C 67:1-9} The Prophet Receives Revelation for the Church

This section was received at the same conference that the Preface (Section 1) and the appendix (Section 133) were received. This section was received in response to the desire to publish the revelations given to Joseph Smith as the Book of Commandments.

Doctrine/Principle: “We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God” Article of Faith 1:9

The prophet can never lead us astray. In council, the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve meet together, each share their thoughts and points of view. A unity amongst all 15 members must be met through prayer and the influence of the Holy Ghost concerning matters discussed.

Questions to Ponder or Discuss:

  • What do we call those who speak for God on the earth?
  • Why do you think that it’s important to understand that when a prophet speaks for the Lord, it’s the same as if the Lord speaks?
  • What do you think it means to sustain the prophet?
  • What is doctrine? What are principles? What are applications? (See David A. Bednar’s address)
